Position Overview:
The Controller is responsible for leading the accounting function, ensuring that all financial reports accurately reflect the facility’s performance. This individual will safeguard plant assets, oversee financial reporting, support operational decision-making, and drive continuous improvement. This role requires a blend of financial expertise and hands-on collaboration with plant leadership to ensure the facility operates efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and monitor hourly payroll, accounts payable, customer billings, production/labor reporting, and month-end financials
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reports generated by accounting personnel
- Prepare and manage annual labor, capital, and expense budgets
- Analyze budget variances and provide recommendations to plant leadership
- Establish inventory control procedures to accurately track and safeguard plant assets
- Lead the month-end closing process, ensuring all revenues and expenses are properly recorded
- Conduct ROI evaluations on capital projects and recommend investments that maximize returns
- Partner with department leaders to develop strategies for controlling plant expenses and optimizing financial performance
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and implementing process enhancements
- Develop, mentor, and lead accounting team members to maximize their professional growth and contributions
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- BS/BA in Accounting (CPA or CMA preferred)
- 4-6 years of supervisory experience in an accounting/finance role within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of cost accounting, financial analysis, and compliance in a plant setting
- Excellent communication skills – able to engage with both financial teams and operations leaders
- Experience with Oracle Enterprise 1, WMS scanning systems, and advanced Microsoft Excel
- Hands-on leadership approach – comfortable spending time on the shop floor and working closely with operations
- Ability to balance strong financial discipline with operational needs, making data-driven recommendations
- Confident decision-maker who can push back professionally and handle challenges with resilience
