Job Description
Our client, a leading company in sanitation and waste management, is seeking a skilled Journeyman Technician / Diesel Mechanic to join their team. This role is essential in maintaining and repairing Class 8 vehicles, ensuring fleet reliability and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diesel mechanics, electrical troubleshooting, and hydraulic systems, with a commitment to safety, efficiency, and quality workmanship.

Schedule: 10 AM – 10 PM | Some Saturdays Required
Pay: $24 - $30/hr (Based on Experience)
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and Repair: Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, air brakes, electrical systems, and suspension components on Class 8 vehicles.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, lubrication, and service to prevent unexpected breakdowns and ensure fleet reliability.
- Brake and Suspension Systems: Inspect, repair, and replace air brakes, ABS systems, steering components, and suspension systems to ensure safety and compliance.
- Hydraulics and Electrical Systems: Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic cylinders, pumps, solenoids, wiring, sensors, and control modules.
- DOT and Safety Compliance: Ensure all work meets DOT regulations and follows proper safety protocols to maintain compliance.
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Utilize diagnostic software, scan tools, and mechanical testing equipment to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
- Welding & Fabrication (Preferred): Perform basic welding and fabrication repairs when necessary.
- Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and inspection reports for all maintenance activities.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with drivers, fleet managers, and team members to schedule repairs and minimize downtime.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working with Class 8 vehicles in a fleet, trucking, or waste management environment.
- Strong expertise in diesel engines, transmissions, electrical diagnostics, hydraulic systems, and air brake systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics to troubleshoot and repair vehicle systems.
- Experience working with diagnostic tools and software for engine, ABS, and transmission troubleshooting.
- CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is a plus, but not required.
- Knowledge of DOT safety and compliance regulations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail, safety, and quality workmanship.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills (preferred).
- Must have own basic hand tools (specialized tools and equipment provided).
