Heavy Equipment & Fleet Mechanic
Job Description
Our client, a growing waste management company, is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment & Fleet Mechanic to join their maintenance team. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of heavy-duty trucks and equipment that keep daily operations running smoothly.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanic who enjoys working on a variety of equipment and takes pride in keeping vehicles safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance.
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Pay: $20 – $30 per hour (DOE)
What You'll Be Doing
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty trucks and equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues
- Repair and maintain roll-off trucks, tractor trailers, front-end loaders, and other fleet equipment
- Conduct inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns
- Replace and repair components such as brakes, suspensions, hydraulics, electrical systems, engines, and driveline components
- Perform welding and fabrication repairs as needed
- Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow all company safety procedures and environmental regulations
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, fleet mechanic, or related role
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Experience working on heavy-duty trucks, tractor trailers, loaders, or similar equipment
- Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and repair equipment safely
- Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs effectively
- Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
- Valid driver's license required
Preferred Qualifications
- CDL is a plus but not required
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Experience in waste management, construction, transportation, or industrial equipment maintenance
- Familiarity with DOT inspections and compliance requirements
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy components
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in varying weather conditions
- Comfortable working around heavy equipment and moving machinery
