Job Description
Our client, a growing manufacturer serving the industrial automation industry, is seeking an experienced Buyer to join their operations team. This position plays a key role in supporting production by ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of raw materials, supplies, and services required for manufacturing operations.
The Buyer is responsible for planning and executing purchasing activities, managing supplier relationships, and maintaining accurate purchasing and inventory data within the company’s MRP/ERP system. This position helps ensure materials are sourced efficiently, costs are controlled, and production requirements are consistently met.
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 annually
Key Responsibilities:

Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to support on-time delivery, competitive pricing, and optimized lead times

Monitor supplier performance and work with key vendors to improve delivery schedules and inventory levels

Run MRP reports to determine purchasing needs and execute purchase orders to support production timelines

Source materials and request quotes from suppliers to ensure the best pricing and availability

Purchase long-lead items when required to support new sales orders or production schedules

Track and manage open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery of materials

Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers to achieve the best overall value

Support engineering and sales teams by providing material pricing for new business quotes

Analyze purchasing data and reports to ensure purchasing decisions support company financial goals

Work closely with inventory control and warehouse teams to maintain proper inventory levels

Participate in cycle counts and support accuracy of critical inventory items

Manage and maintain the “Plan for Every Part” (PFEP) process to ensure effective inventory management

Maintain accurate supplier information, lead times, costs, and safety stock levels within the MRP system

Run material shortage reports to identify and resolve potential production delays

Expedite materials when necessary to support production or sales order timelines

Maintain purchasing documentation, RFQs, and purchase order tracking logs to ensure accuracy and organization
Job Requirements
Education
-
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred
Experience
-
Minimum of 3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment

Experience in the steel industry is a plus
Skills
